You can't motivate your way out of structural failure.

Here's what we're missing: India treats inspiration as a substitute for execution.

We celebrate the Shreyas Iyer moment — young captain, fresh thinking, "Lion" culture — because it requires nothing from us. No systemic overhaul. No budget reallocation. No difficult conversations with babus. No obsolete processes dismantled. We just clap, share it on social media, and feel like something changed.

Meanwhile, our defence production base operates at 60 percent capacity. Our defence research institutions are siloed. Our private defence manufacturers are throttled by compliance costs and regulatory friction. Our armed forces are still fighting 2024 wars with 1990s logistics frameworks.

The real "Lion culture" in defence isn't about motivational speeches. It's about giving a 28-year-old Major the authority to order supplies without a 14-step approval chain. It's about letting our defence PSUs hire engineers without IAS clearance. It's about dismantling the procurement raj that makes defence manufacturing uncompetitive globally.
