Their letter carries the familiar scent of manufactured outrage — the kind that erupts precisely when Hindu institutions demonstrate financial autonomy. This is not about transparency. This is about something far more civilisational: the Congress cannot accept that a major religious institution is managing its own wealth without requiring their permission, mediation, or "secular" oversight.

What Actually Happened

The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, constructed after the 2019 Supreme Court verdict, has received significant donations from devotees across India and the diaspora. The Trust managing the temple has maintained accounts and submission processes. Congress leaders are now raising questions about fund utilization and alleged irregularities, demanding an independent inquiry into whether donations have been properly accounted for.

This is standard parliamentary politics — a government project attracts scrutiny, and opposition demands accountability. Fair enough. But the timing, the framing, and the selective outrage tell a story that goes far deeper than this particular temple's accounts.

What This Means for India

Here is what the Congress cannot say out loud: they are uncomfortable because the Ram Mandir represents Hindu institutions reclaiming financial and administrative sovereignty. For seventy years, India's Hindu temples operated under structures inherited from British colonial law and Mughal-era disruption. Temple lands were seized by the state. Temple endowments were "secularized" and administered by government bureaucrats. Hindu religious wealth became a commons managed by everyone except Hindus.

The Ram Mandir Trust is different. It is a Hindu-managed institution handling Hindu devotional money under Hindu governance structures. No Christian missionary board. No Islamic Waqf Board parallel system. Just Hindus managing Hindu wealth for Hindu purposes. This breaks a pattern that India's pseudo-secular establishment has enforced for centuries.

Congress demands an independent probe — but independent from whom? From the Trust itself? From Hindu oversight? The real question is whether they demand equal scrutiny of Christian charities managing crores, or Waqf boards managing lakhs of acres. We know the answer.

The Deeper Story Nobody is Telling

India lost approximately 800 years of systematic civilisational wealth extraction. Islamic sultanates melted temple gold. British colonialists catalogued, taxed, and sold Hindu sacred assets. By 1947, the wealthiest temples in the world had been reduced to maintenance-level endowments. We still don't have complete records of what was taken.

When the Congress raises its voice about temple fund management today, we must ask: where was this accountability demand when temples were being looted? Where was the independent probe when British surveyors were measuring temple lands for colonial revenue? Where was the scrutiny when the first Prime Minister allowed temple wealth to be administered by secular bureaucrats?

The Ram Mandir's financial transparency should be welcome. But not because Congress demanded it. It should be welcome because Bharat — as a civilisation — is learning to govern its own institutions again.

The Vedic Pattern

The Vedic concept of "Rakshana" — protection and guardianship — has always placed sacred wealth under the watch of dharmic institutions, not external rulers. When Vedic kingdoms protected temple endowments, civilisation thrived. When temples lost autonomy over their wealth, the culture weakened. Today, as Hindu institutions reclaim even modest financial independence, they are restoring an ancient pattern that colonialism and pseudo-secular governance tried to erase.

This is not a story about accounts. This is a story about memory, power, and whether Bharat has learned to trust itself with its own sacred inheritance.
