Second: border security coordination falls apart because informal border management systems depend on trusted local actors. Third: criminal networks that TMC controlled (or taxed) become free agents. Fourth: state police capacity to function outside elected government directions gets exposed.

In a state like West Bengal, which shares 4,096 kilometers with Bangladesh, which sits on India's eastern strategic perimeter, and which feeds the eastern theatre of Indian defence operations — this matters to the Navy, the Air Force, and every intelligence agency with a Bengal desk.

The Deeper Story Nobody is Telling

Mamata Banerjee ran Bengal like a 19th-century zamindar, not a 21st-century politician. Her power was personal loyalty, not institutional. Every district had a Mandal — a strongman who kept the machine running because he believed Mamata was invincible and could protect him from Delhi. That belief was the glue.

That glue evaporated in 2026. The moment BJP won Bengal, every Mandal in every district faced the same calculation: Does Mamata still have juice? Can she still protect me from ED, CBI, Delhi? The answer became no. Mandal's defection is the canary. Within six months, you will see similar moves in Malda, Murshidabad, Darjeeling, and Cooch Behar. TMC's district-level control system is unraveling.

Second: whether ED formally charges Anubrata in next three months (his defection just made him a liability to TMC and an asset to investigators). Third: whether BJP consolidates district-level authority fast enough to fill the TMC vacuum before criminal or separatist networks organize.
